Modern grilling is no longer dependent on checking the doneness of meat using a fork. Instead, you can use a meat probe to determine the internal temperature of what you’re cooking, and that will tell you whether it’s ready or not.

Notably, the general consensus on the Thermopro TP15 digital meat thermometer is somewhat positive, with consistent praise for the accuracy, fast readings, design, and more. Admittedly, there are also dissenting views that make the Thermopro TP15 review a necessity. As shown below, such a review would tell you what to expect from the tool. This is in addition to providing answers on whether the device would work for your needs or not.

The Thermopro TP15 meat probe is an affordable gadget that features a metal and plastic build. Additionally, the manufacturer markets the probe as an accurate device with tons of benefits for potential users. Examples include fast readouts, safe use, waterproof construction, and more. We look into all these claims in the review below.

Overall performance

In our opinion, the overall performance of the meat thermometer is well worth the price point. Notably, this starts from the construction of the device. It features one long needle-tip probe, which means it shouldn’t have any problems going into the meat. This probe is made from stainless steel food-grade materials.

Additionally, it fairs well in terms of reading accuracy and even includes a recalibration feature if the readings you get are slightly inaccurate. Also, it seems you don’t have to take your readings as the probe is in the meat, which means you don’t have to put yourself in danger by peering into an oven or grill for longer than necessary.

Another positive is that readings are prompt as long as there is power in the battery and the device is in good shape. Speaking of the battery, the thermometer shuts down after 10 minutes of no use to conserve power. Lastly, it doesn’t seem like you need to take any extra precautions while cleaning the device, making maintenance a bit easier. For specifics on the different aspects of the meat thermometer’s performance, keep reading.

Design and setup

Thermopro TP15 Review

The Thermopro TP15 meat thermometer’s design incorporates a plastic section with three buttons and a backlit LCD screen. The buttons include one to change the temperature measurements from Celsius to Fahrenheit and vice versa. As for the other two, one lights up the screen for easier readings while the other holds the readings in place as you remove the thermometer from the meat.

The top of the device features a hole that you can use to hang the device on a kitchen rack. On the backside of the plastic is an easy-access compartment that you can twist or rotate to reach the CR2032 battery. This will be handy when you deplete the battery and have to replace it.

Also, there is a magnetic backing just below the battery compartment. This gives you more options with regard to how you store the device. You can attach it to your refrigerator as well as other metal surfaces in the kitchen. Below that is a recommended internal temperatures chart for most of the meats you’re likely to grill.

Also, below the plastic top is a 5.36-inch probe which is fairly long by meat thermometer standards. This gives you extra clearance, so you don’t touch the hot meat with your hands as you check the temperature.

As we’ve mentioned above, you get a 5.36-inch probe with this meat thermometer purchase. It’s made of food-grade stainless steel, which makes it safe for use with your meats. Furthermore, it tapers into a needlepoint at the bottom of the probe. This makes insertion easier no matter how tough the meat is. The temperature sensor is also included in the probe.

In terms of accuracy, this meat thermometer performs exceptionally well and is thus well-suited to the job. This is because it has a ± 0.9°F margin of error. Also, if you feel the device is losing its precision, it’s possible to recalibrate it for a higher level of accuracy. However, you won’t have to use this feature often.

Durability and warranty

Thermopro TP15 Review

The device has some rather flimsy components that might get damaged easily. As such, we advise that you don’t drop it. However, if you take good care of it, this should be a non-issue. Also, it comes with a waterproof exterior, meaning you can wash it as often as you need to. Furthermore, a 1-year warranty is provided with the initial purchase, although registering the device extends the coverage to three years.

Ease of use

With only three buttons included using this meat thermometer doesn’t seem complicated. You just stick the probe into your meat, take the reading, and press the hold button to lock the reading in place. After that, wait 3-4 seconds, pull the probe out, and read the temperature. If necessary, you can press the backlight button to light up the screen. Also, remember to change the temperature to either Celsius or Fahrenheit readings depending on what you’re comfortable with. Most users won’t even need to read the manual since the device is so intuitive.

Most meat thermometers are affordably priced, and it’s no different for the Thermopro TP15. As such, the price is going to be a non-issue for most potential buyers.

  • Easy to use
  • Affordable
  • Accurate
  • Temperature readings are fairly fast
  • Waterproof
  • It comes with a small cap for the needle tip, which can be easy to lose
  • Most of the components can easily get damaged if not well taken care of

If you can handle the small cap and the somewhat flimsy build, the Thermopro TP15 digital meat thermometer is a good investment for your kitchen. As long as there is power in the battery, the device is reliable, gives fast readings, and won’t be too difficult to maintain and use.
